Training Diary
Athletes doing their homework

Training Diary is an ongoing photographic project that turns its attention away from spectacle and toward the quiet, repetitive labor that defines professional sport. Across a series of systematically documented training sessions,
the work observes athletes not in moments of triumph,
but in the long stretches of preparation that precede visibility.

Photographed since 2022, the project spans a wide range of disciplines—track and field, beach volleyball, mountain biking, ice hockey, rugby, swimming, and bodybuilding. The images are deliberately unadorned: no stylized outfits, no staged performances, no public-relations choreography. Instead, they offer images of athletes and their training environments rarely seen—anonymous gyms, empty tracks, overlooked backrooms—spaces where athletic identity is formed away from audiences.

Athletes: Nico Hischier, Petra Klingler, Kaiwann Anwar, Joris Ryf, Esmée & Zoé, William Reais, Angelica Moser, Zebras RFC, Eliane Clerc, Cherelle Oesteringer, Kim Wehrt and Marithé Engondo.
